Biennial Plants with Yellow FlowersOrnamental Biennials with Gold Blooms for a Yellow Theme Garden
Biennial plants are usually hardy, easy to grow plants that self-sow in the garden, so these yellow blooming plants will make great additions to a yellow themed garden.
A yellow flowering garden provides a splash of warm color to the landscape and no garden is complete without the long-last blooms, and ready self-sowing of biennial plants. Foxglove Plants With Golden Flowers - A favorite biennial plant for the garden, there are several foxglove cultivars with yellow blooms.
Yellow Blooming Hollyhocks
English Wallflower (Erysimum cheiri) - Zones 5-9. This beautiful biennial is a native wildflower that does well in full sun to part shade and has bright gold flowers mid-spring through mid-summer. These English natives are becoming more popular in gardens worldwide for their bright blooms and sweet fragrance. Add wallflowers to your yellow themed garden to attract butterflies, bees and song birds. Like the Digitalis plants, all wallflower plant parts are poisonous so take care when using in a garden with pets and children. Most wallflower plants grow about 2' tall but the 'Tom Thumb' series is more compact and grows only 9 inches tall. Blanket Flower or Indian Blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) - Usually blanket flowers have maroon or rust color petals but 'Torch Yellow' is a cultivar with bright gold, double blooms. Like most blanket flowers, 'Torch Yellow' is semi-drought tolerant and does well in containers because of its tolerance for poor soil conditions. These yellow blooms will attract butterflies and birds to the yellow themed garden for most of the summer and well into the fall. 'Torch Yellow' is only about 18 inches tall and a great, compact perennial for the garden. 'Yellow Plume' is another cultivar that has similar yellow blooms with double form but grows 2' tall.
